5 Reasons to Foam Roll
1. Increase blood flow to and from muscles: Foam rolling increases blood flow by loosening muscles, as well as opening up pathways for nutrients and oxygen to enter the muscle, and waste products to leave the muscle.
2. Increase range of motion and quality of muscle contraction: When practiced over time, foam rolling not only increases range of motion, but also increases the quality of any muscle contraction of an affected muscle.
3. Reduce chance of injury: Foam rolling reduces chances of injury, espicially when paired with regular stretching.
4. Possibly lower feelings of anxiety and fatigue: It has been shown that foam rolling can alter faulty breathing patterns that cause heightened amounts of CO2 in blood, and in turn lessen feelings of anxiety and fatigue.
5. Decrease soreness: Foam rolling can conditon muscles to become better at recovery, therefore decreasing the chances of or drastically shortening the time frame for soreness.
